This Privacy Policy explains how QuarterNote, a product of KumoKodo (“QuarterNote,” “we,” “us”), collects, uses, and shares information when you use our website and services (the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to this Policy.
Information we collect
- Account & profile. Name, email, password (stored hashed), phone number, timezone, and role. Teachers also provide a headline, bio, instruments, genres, rates, and professional credits. Students may provide a learner name, age, skill level, and goals.
- Payment information. Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not collect or store your full card number; Stripe handles card data under its own terms. We retain records of transactions (amounts, fees, payout status).
- Lesson content. Online lessons take place in a video room provided by Daily.co. Audio may be transcribed, and the transcript is processed by AI to draft a lesson recap and practice plan. We store transcripts, recaps, and lesson notes.
- Messages. Messages you send to teachers or students through the Service.
- Usage & device data. Basic technical data (e.g., IP address, browser type) and authentication cookies needed to keep you signed in.
How we use information
- Provide, operate, and secure the Service.
- Process bookings, payments, platform fees, and teacher payouts.
- Generate AI-assisted lesson recaps and practice plans.
- Send service communications and notifications (in-app, and by email or SMS where you have provided contact details), such as booking confirmations, cancellations, reminders, and recap alerts.
- Verify teacher credentials and maintain trust and safety.
- Improve the Service and comply with legal obligations.
AI processing
To create recaps, lesson transcripts are processed by AI models accessed through the Vercel AI Gateway (currently Anthropic’s Claude). Recaps are drafts that the teacher reviews before they are shared with the student. AI output may contain inaccuracies and should not be relied upon as professional advice.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as needed:
- Between participants. Teachers and students see the information necessary to conduct lessons (e.g., names, booking details, messages, recaps).
- Service providers (subprocessors).Stripe (payments), Daily.co (video & transcription), Vercel and Neon (hosting & database), Resend (email), Twilio (SMS), the Vercel AI Gateway / Anthropic (AI recaps), and Google (optional sign-in).
- Legal & safety. When required by law or to protect our users, the public, or our rights.
- Business transfers. In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
Mobile messaging (SMS)
If you provide your mobile number, you may receive transactional text messages from QuarterNote — such as booking confirmations, lesson reminders, and cancellation notices. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message or by removing your number in your account settings; reply HELP for help. SMS is delivered through our provider, Twilio.
We do not share or sell your mobile phone number or your SMS opt-in information with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes. Mobile information is used only to deliver the messages described above.
Cookies
We use strictly necessary cookies to authenticate you and keep you signed in. We do not use advertising cookies.
Children’s privacy
The Service is intended for adults. Lessons may be taken by a minor, but only through an account created and managed by a parent or legal guardian, who is responsible for the minor’s use and for providing any required consent. We do not knowingly create accounts for children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information without appropriate consent, contact us and we will delete it.
Data retention
We keep information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service, meet legal and tax obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. You may request deletion as described below.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information (including encrypted transport and hashed passwords). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To make a request, contact us at the email below. You can edit much of your profile information directly in the app.
International users
The Service is operated from the United States, and information is processed there. If you access the Service from outside the U.S., you consent to that transfer and processing.
Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide additional notice where appropriate.
